Why it ruled:
Ski-Doo wanted to make waves (or the snow equivalent of waves) with the MY24 campaign. Having seen Arcade in action on the “All Access” shoot, they were hooked. We knew we were in the right place when our DP Leo Hoorn’s portfolio dominated the creative references without them even knowing who was behind the camera.
So we took them where we know best, the Backcountry. We flipped the script on what has historically been a traditional commercial production, venturing deep with an agile crew pushing everyone outside their comfort zones. The first rule of backcountry shooting - what works on commercial sets will not work out there. Oh and also, there’s no cell service. Enter the Arcade team! Not only do we know this space inside and out, we are your partners in striking the balance necessary to bring in elements of commercial production without over indexing. And we are also wildly capable on mountain snowmobiles, which was a must have in these parts.
The end result was a welcomed departure from the content of years past, putting viewers in the driver's seat with a Sony Venice Rialto rig in tandem with the Phantom 4K Flex and dropping them into the wilds of BC and Quebec without anyone having to lift a finger (or brave the long, cold a$$ days the crew were up against).
pro-Tip:
Don’t ever underestimate the importance of time in environment on shoots like this one. While we in production like to pretend we can control everything, the backcountry likes to humble us.. A lot. Top tier footage comes with a price, either you camp out for weeks or you duplicate your crews so you can be tackling multiple shots while the primo conditions last.
